gæsalappir (f)

“quotation marks”

I absolutely love this word, because it is the given name for these little symbols ” ” ” ” but literally translates into “gæs” (goose) and “lappir” (feet). Goose feet! What an appropriate description for tiny little paired teardrop symbols. Now when I use quotation marks, I can’t help but imagine miniature geese running across the page to stamp their existence into it.
